JRD DB Program Complete:
I can’t believe I stuck with something! This was a huge fitness accomplishment for me. Thanks to the community as well for so much support.
Okay, here’s a short debrief of my first program:
Things I’m Proud Of:
💪I completed 5 days a week for 3 months straight while balancing work and a demanding pickleball schedule. 😂
🍺I abstained from adult beverages, and my diet was on point. For much of this time, I had great sleep, abundant energy, and excellent mental clarity.
🫸I made choices based on what I wanted and chose not to succumb to peer pressure.
Things I Learned (the Hard Way):
🥀I overtrained. Not only did I overtrain, but I also pushed myself too far and “blew my engine.” I’m still “sick” after the last day of training, and my HRV is still 20 points down even after a week off. Did I see the warning signs? Absolutely. Did I slow down? No, I’m stubborn. Instead, I doubled down and started doing two-a-days for the January Challenge.
What did I learn? Well, I’m 44, not 24. As crazy as it sounds, I need rest. For my next program, I’ll plan to take a recovery week every 4 weeks. If I need it sooner, I’ll listen to my body.
🧘♂️Fitness is a long road. Ultimately, I’ve realized that I need to do less to achieve more if I want to make this a sustainable habit into old age.
🌞Consistency matters. I learned that I’m really happy with a consistent workout routine, and a little effort goes a long way.
Here’s to a well-deserved break! I’m excited to start my next adventure/program! 🎉
