Replied on JRD Max Progress

Yeah-multiple times in the past I have gotten so discouraged by initial weight gain and quit. More recently I have found if I can get pass that 4-6 week hump, my body then starts to lose weight. The body measurements are key to that as well-if I can see some results from the hard work, it makes me want to stick with the plan.

Over the three months of JRD Max I lost inches and weight and gained stamina, muscle tone and a sustainable workout I enjoy doing.

In the first month I gained three pounds, but that is normal for me when beginning a program that incorporates strength (including body weight) training. At the same time my measurements were getting smaller. I expect I gain muscle faster than I burn fat. In the end, I lost the additional three pounds plus three pounds more for six overall.

In measurements I lost 1.25 inches in my chest and waist, 0.75 inches in hips and thighs. And, I gained 0.25 inches in my arms-must have been all those push-ups!

Looking forward to incorporating some of the JRD Max workouts into my new routine. Do the Thing!

Finished JRD Max! Feeling so proud of myself and physically great. The first workout program I’ve committed to all the way through. Now turning my sights on what to do next….

Final stats to come.

When I was researching jump rope injuries/pain at one point (diagnosing my shin splints) I came across people talking about something similar to what you are describing. They attributed it to their achilles tendon and the beginnings of tendinitis. Generally due to overuse. I have no health care background, but maybe it’s a place to start researching to find relief and treatment.

Have you tried wearing compression socks? I wear them every time I jump because I was getting shin splints. At one point I thought I was over it and stopped wearing the socks while on vacation only to have the shin splints return-so I think they’re working.

Generally speaking, though, I think the programs are of best benefit when you tailor them to what you’re capable of. A little challenge, while listening to your body. I think it’s completely appropriate to modify, take breaks, repeat sessions or weeks before moving on, end a workout early if you’ve given all you can give, or take a day or a few off to recover physically or mentally, etc.

Best wishes finding what is sustainable for you!

I agree. I like the structure of 3 different EMOM configurations with 10 sets each. Just as you’re getting tired of doing one set of activities, it moves on to the next group which challenges you in different ways.

Way to go! And, a great triumphant photo. 🎉

I did not think I was going to be able to complete the jump rope ladder in JRDMax month 3, day 4, but I found I was more than capable. It was fun and challenging, and I feel a sense of accomplishment. I appreciate Dan’s comments motivating me each time I tripped up - telling me to keep going. It’s like he saw me through the iPad and knew an encouraging word was needed right then. Keep with it, everyone!
